Album Spotlight / Preview: THE ASTRAL PROPHETS - "Invasion" & Single "Power of the Rift"
CALGARY OUTFIT UNLEASHES A CINEMATIC SCI‑FI GROOVE METAL CONCEPT ALBUM
When members of Calgary progressive folk metal outfit Scythia decided to pivot toward a heavier, direct sci‑fi concept back in 2019, The Astral Prophets began shaping their own corner of the Canadian metal underground. Now anchored by vocalist Staci Allen, guitarists AJ Bergin and Harley D'Orazio, bassist Terry Savage, and drummer Kyle Summers, the band is set to release their debut full‑length album, Invasion, on October 30, 2026. Following up on their 2023 EP Anywhere But Here, Invasion expands the band's self‑described "Power Groove" sound across an eight‑track conceptual journey. Built around a sprawling sci‑fi mythology of interstellar conflict and dystopia, the album combines heavy groove‑metal foundations with atmospheric synth layers and dual‑guitar harmonies.
"Power of the Rift" (Lyric Video)
The single "Power of the Rift", conceived during pandemic lockdowns, serves as a primary blueprint for the record. Driven by an insistent central riff and layered electronics, the track balances cosmic synth arrangements with Staci Allen's clean, high‑register vocals and a galloping rhythm section. Rather than relying purely on down‑tuned heaviness, the track leans into a fast‑paced, melodic momentum. Spanning eight tracks, Invasion captures a band refining its identity into a more cinematic, direct form. Fans of bands that bridge traditional heavy metal energy with modern groove and atmospheric touches, such as Unleash The Archers or Amaranthe, will find plenty of material to dig into. To celebrate the release, the band will host a hometown release show in Calgary on October 30 at Festival Hall.
