Album Spotlight: BANISHER - "Metamorphosis"
POLISH TECHNICAL / PROGRESSIVE DEATH METAL OUTFIT CELEBRATES 20 YEARS WITH A NEW ALBUM VIA SELFMADEGOD RECORDS
Based in Rzeszów, Poland, and formed in 2005 by guitarist Hubert Więcek (Dieth, ex‑Decapitated live), technical and progressive death metal outfit Banisher returned on January 30, 2026, via Selfmadegod Records. Following a six‑year break since Degrees of Isolation (2020), Banisher mark their 20th anniversary with Metamorphosis, an eight‑track album that pushes modern death metal into angular, progressive territory.
"Metamorphosis pt. 2" (Official Music Video)
Balancing surgical precision with massive grooves, occasional clean vocals, and stark atmospheric passages, the album sees the band breaking away from straight‑line brutality to weave unexpected, spacious melodic bridges between intricate riffing. While Oliver Monticolo handles the drum kit live, the studio rhythm tracks on Metamorphosis were performed by guest drummers Eugene Ryabchenko (Fleshgod Apocalypse) and Michał Łysejko. Production duties were handled by Tomasz "Zed" Zalewski (Decapitated, Dieth), and the striking artwork was crafted by Michał "Xaay" Loranc (Nile, Behemoth, Vader).
Moving from the hard‑hitting opener "Manifest of Justice" to the nightmarish soundscapes of "Metamorphosis pt. 2", which received an official music video, the album reflects a band growing more confident in its approach. Following a series of live performances in Poland and a run of 20th‑anniversary shows alongside Terrordome and Dormant Ordeal, Metamorphosis finds Banisher continuing to expand the technical and progressive boundaries of their sound.
