Cumbeast – Fairytales of Filth: When Fairy Tales Go Full Death Metal

Thought you’d heard it all? Think again. Finland’s filthiest export, Cumbeast, is back and they’ve brought their seventh full-length album Fairytales of Filth (out May 12 via Morbid Generation Records). It’s as if someone dared Cannibal Corpse to babysit the Brothers Grimm during a blackout. The result? Total chaos, laced with accordion, synths, and a whole lot of bad taste.
Don’t let the title fool you: This is no bedtime story. Tracks like Troll Named Scrot (yes, that’s the real name) feature synth wizardry by Henri Sorvali (Finntroll, Moonsorrow), while Sami Perttula from Korpiklaani crashes in with his trademark accordion, sounding like a drunken troll at Oktoberfest. Add fretless bass, relentless blast beats, and lyrics that’ll get you banned from family gatherings, and you’ve got the full Cumbeast experience.
These guys have been at it since 2005, turning shock value into an art form. It’s been six long years since Gore Zoo, but the band hasn’t mellowed, they’ve only grown more unhinged. Somehow, they manage to crank up both the absurdity and the catchiness. Fair warning: the grooves hit hard, the breakdowns hit harder, and the humor is as subtle as a wrecking ball.
Fairytales of Filth isn’t just an album, it’s a challenge. To your expectations, your tolerance for filth, and possibly your eardrums. It’s loud, grotesque, weirdly melodic, and, above all, unforgettable. Just... maybe don’t play it at your kid’s birthday party.
