Détresse - “Pessimismes”: Cold, Cracked, and Brutally Honest

Honestly, I didn’t expect this to hit so hard.
Détresse, that Canada/Austria trio, just dropped Pessimismes (May 17, Vendetta Records), and it’s... yeah, it’s kind of a blizzard. Not the pretty snow-globe kind. The one that gets inside your coat and makes your bones hurt.
There’s zero decoration here. No ambient padding, no fancy genre labels. Just six raw, furious tracks of black metal screamed in French and German like they’re coughing up ghosts that won’t leave.
The vocals don’t care if you like them ; they sound like survival. The riffs feel like someone recorded them inside a wind tunnel with a cracked mic and frozen hands. And the drums? Jesus, they just don’t quit. It's exhausting, in a good way.
No warmth, no comfort, no hope. But if you’ve ever been stuck in your own head too long, if your brain buzzes like static at night... yeah, this gets close.
I’ll admit, some parts blurred together on first listen. It’s dense. But that’s also what makes it feel real. Raw, confused, cathartic.
You might not “enjoy” it, honestly, I’m not sure I did either. But I felt it. And maybe that’s the whole damn point.
