"ERNEUERUNG" GETS A SECOND LIFE. AND IT'S ABOUT TIME

German black metal bands that actually mean it? Rare. Akantophis? They've been around since '98, went quiet, came back, and now they've signed with Wormholedeath. Good for them.

Des groupes de black metal allemand qui sont authentiques ? C'est rare. Akantophis ? Ils existent depuis 98, se sont tus, sont revenus, et maintenant ils ont signé avec Wormholedeath. Tant mieux pour eux.

The album is Erneuerung. Seven tracks, 42 minutes. Recorded live at some studio called Liquid Aether Audio, which means it probably breathes instead of just blasting your face off. And yeah, there's aggression. But also atmosphere. Dissonant stuff. Progressive leaning, whatever that means these days. I'll say this: they call black metal "inner transformation" more than pure hate. Not sure I buy that entirely, but the description fits.

L'album s'appelle Erneuerung. Sept morceaux, 42 minutes. Enregistré live dans un studio appelé Liquid Aether Audio, ce qui signifie qu'il respire probablement au lieu de simplement vous exploser au visage. Et oui, il y a de l'agression. Mais aussi de l'atmosphère. Des trucs dissonants. Une tendance progressive, peu importe ce que ça veut dire aujourd'hui. Je dirais ceci : ils décrivent leur black metal comme une « transformation intérieure » plus qu'une pure haine. Je ne suis pas sûr d'y croire à 100%, mais la description colle.

The lyrics are in German. More variety than before, apparently. And they've got a video out for "Perforation", chaotic, visual, worth a look.

This band has been on hiatus, done side projects (Hidden in the Fog, Throat Cut, cool names), and now they're back with a slightly different lineup. Wiederkehr in 2018. Exitus XX in 2020. This new one feels like the real push.

Ce groupe a fait une pause, a eu des projets parallèles (Hidden in the Fog, Throat Cut, des noms sympas), et revient maintenant avec une formation légèrement différente. Wiederkehr en 2018. Exitus XX en 2020. Ce nouvel album semble être la vraie impulsion.

I'm slightly cynical about "wider audience" talk. But the music? Live recording, organic feel, touches of death metal. That's not generic. Hope this new signature brings them greater visibility, that's all I fucking wish for them.

Je suis un peu cynique quant au discours « toucher un public plus large ». Mais la musique ? Enregistrement live, aspect organique, touches de death metal. Ce n'est pas générique. J'espère que cette nouvelle signature leur apportera plus de visibilité, c'est tout ce que je leur souhaite, putain.

Let's see if Wormholedeath gives it the push it deserves.
