Balazs Toth has been on a weird journey. He used to play guitar for Hungarian melodeath band Casketgarden, moved to Ireland in 2012, and basically turned his gear-review YouTube channel into a full recording project called BalashToth. After a couple of EPs, the first full-length album, Equation II - The Antithesis of Life and Free Will, lands on June 12, 2026. It's coming out via a tag-team of labels: Not-Even-Music, Metal Ör Die Records, and Pest Records.

Balazs Toth a eu un parcours étrange. Il jouait de la guitare pour le groupe hongrois de melodeath Casketgarden, a déménagé en Irlande en 2012, et a transformé sa chaîne YouTube de tests de matos en un véritable projet d'enregistrement appelé BalashToth. Après quelques EPs, le premier album, Equation II - The Antithesis of Life and Free Will, sort le 12 juin 2026 via un tandem de labels : Not-Even-Music, Metal Ör Die Records et Pest Records.

Musically, it's a solo project, but it's listed as an Irish duo for this album because he brought in guest spots. The tracks shuffle through different math‑formula names. You get a stupidly fast 280 BPM blast on "+Fear + Despair," while "Self = Dark Side" drops the speed for an old-school death metal groove and a big classic chorus. That one is all about consumption and identity collapse. Cheery stuff.

Musicalement, c'est un projet solo, mais il est présenté comme un duo irlandais sur cet album grâce à des invités. Les morceaux portent des noms de formules mathématiques. On a un blast rapide à 280 BPM sur « +Fear + Despair », tandis que « Self = Dark Side » ralentit pour un groove death metal old-school et un grand refrain classique. Ce dernier parle de consommation et d'effondrement identitaire. Joyeux.

The first single, "÷ Misunderstanding," has some uneven timing shifts and these incredibly miserable, sorrowful vocals from a guy called Deathmetalvoicer. They used to do Iron Maiden and Entombed covers on YouTube together, and honestly, the chemistry works. Then things get weird. Adam Toth shows up on three tracks to play viola and a Moog synth. The doomy closer "x Judgement" is basically built around that viola. It's an odd mix. Sometimes the classical strings feel a bit out of place next to the At the Gates and Carcass worship, but it stops the record from being totally boring.

Le premier single, « ÷ Misunderstanding », a des décalages de mesure irréguliers et des voix incroyablement tristes et misérables d'un gars appelé Deathmetalvoicer. Ils faisaient des reprises d'Iron Maiden et d'Entombed ensemble sur YouTube, et honnêtement, la chimie fonctionne. Ensuite, ça devient étrange. Adam Toth apparaît sur trois morceaux pour jouer de l'alto et du synthé Moog. Le morceau de clôture doom « x Judgement » est construit autour de cet alto. Un mélange bizarre. Parfois, les cordes classiques semblent déplacées à côté du culte d'At the Gates et Carcass, mais ça empêche le disque d'être totalement ennuyeux.

Péter Jakab, the former singer of Depths of Depravity, did the photography for the cover. It's got a very bleak, personal feel compared to his old catastrophic concepts. If you still buy physical media, the Digipack is limited to 100 hand-numbered copies. It meanders during the atmospheric instrumental breaks, but when the riffs hit, it's solid.

Péter Jakab, l'ancien chanteur de Depths of Depravity, a réalisé la photo de la pochette. Elle a un aspect très sombre et personnel comparé à ses anciens concepts catastrophiques. Si vous achetez encore des supports physiques, le Digipack est limité à 100 exemplaires numérotés à la main. Ça traîne un peu pendant les pauses instrumentales atmosphériques, mais quand les riffs arrivent, c'est solide.
